Eric B. Jacobson, President
Following graduation, he pursued his interest in science education, taking an Education Internship with Discovery Creek Children's Museum. There he taught classes to children in kindergarten up through the sixth grade. He also assisted with the development of curriculums for Discovery Creek's Rolling Rainforest Exhibit and summer camp. Later that same year, he acquired the position of Education Program Manager with a small non-profit organization called Trees For The Future. During his time there, he developed a program for students in grades 3 through 8 that would engage students in planting trees while learning about their environment.
In 2005, Eric began his graduate studies in Conservation Biology at Columbia University in New York City. In addition to serving as Teaching Assistant for Professional Certification Courses offered by the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC), he spent a semester developing an assessment rubric for an Integrated Ecology Curriculum being instituted by CERC at MS 88 in Brooklyn. In August 2006, he also assisted with the New York Young Conservationists program, a two-week field course in restoration ecology.
Conservation Horizons embodies Eric's personal philosophy about education and how conservation can serve as a learning vehicle for a wide range of subjects. For more on this subject, please read the statement of our philosophy.
