Conservation Horizons strives to enhance existing curriculums by offering engaging, innovative, and topical programming for students. Through its programs, Conservation Horizons hopes to illustrate to students how the knowledge and skills they learn in school can be applied to real world situations. Programs are designed to inform students about current events while preparing them for situations and careers in the future.

These programs utilize conservation as a vehicle to explore topics in both the natural and social sciences. Students learn about the science behind environmental issues as well as how humans affect and are affected by their environment. Moreover, through the application of this knowledge, students come to understand how these problems can be resolved. The emphasis is on interdisciplinary and integrated study, drawing on multiple subjects to demonstrate how effective conservation means ensuring the long-term persistence of biodiversity while also meeting the needs of people. See our program descriptions for more information.

In addition to student programs, Conservation Horizons seeks to assist teachers of all grades and subjects through professional development workshops. Workshops help teachers stay informed about recent knowledge in the ever-advancing field of science, as well as showing them how to bring this information to the classroom. Teachers can also learn how conservation may be used to teach classes in the social sciences and humanities. Professional course topics include: teaching biodiversity; how to discuss environmental issues in the classroom; and how to create engaging science lessons. See the section on professional development for more information.
